Analog IC Prices Under Pressure: ADI Hikes 10-15% Following TI's Lead, Mature-Node Wafer Shortage and Extended Lead Times Reshape the Market
The analog semiconductor market is undergoing its most significant pricing realignment since the supply chain crisis of 2021-2022. Analog Devices Inc. (ADI) has formally notified distribution partners and direct customers of a 10-15% price increase effective August 2, 2026, spanning its precision converter (ADC/DAC), high-speed amplifier, isolated interface, and power management IC families. This follows similar price actions from Texas Instruments (TI) implemented across multiple tranches in the first half of 2026, with increases of 8-12% on select power management, signal chain, and interface products. Together, ADI and TI control approximately 40-45% of the global analog IC market, making this a coordinated industry-level repricing.
The root cause is a structural mismatch between capacity and demand on mature semiconductor nodes. The vast majority of analog ICs are manufactured on 200mm (and some 150mm) wafers using process nodes ranging from 180nm down to 65nm — technologies that have seen virtually no capacity expansion over the past decade. According to industry estimates, global 200mm fab capacity grew less than 3% annually from 2020 to 2025, while demand for analog ICs grew at a CAGR of 7-9% over the same period. Foundry prices for 200mm wafers at TSMC, UMC, and Tower Semiconductor have risen 8-12% year-over-year, reflecting utilization rates that have remained above 95% since late 2023.
ADI's price adjustment covers its highest-volume and most design-critical product lines. In precision converters, the AD7768-1 (24-bit, 256 kSPS, sigma-delta ADC), AD4020 (20-bit, 1.8 MSPS SAR ADC), and AD5791 (20-bit, 1-us settling DAC) are among the parts seeing increases, reflecting the high cost of trimming and calibration at the wafer level. In amplifiers, the AD8138 (1.2 GHz differential ADC driver) and ADA4898 (high-voltage, low-noise op-amp in SOIC-8) are affected. Power management products — including the ADP505x family of buck regulators and the LT8620/LT8650 Silent Switcher series — are also included, with ADI noting that packaging costs have risen 6-8% due to OSAT facilities in Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines facing higher energy tariffs and minimum wage adjustments.
Texas Instruments' earlier price adjustment provides important context. As the world's largest analog chipmaker with over $18 billion in annual revenue, TI has been aggressively transitioning its production to 300mm wafers to gain a structural cost advantage. However, TI's 300mm fabs in Texas (RFAB1, RFAB2) and Utah (LFAB) are still ramping, and in the interim the company is exposed to the same 200mm foundry cost pressures. TI's price hikes have been selectively applied: high-volume commodity parts (e.g., LM358 op-amp, TPS5430 buck converter, SN65HVD22x RS-485 transceivers) saw 8-10% increases, while older, lower-volume devices in ceramic or hermetic packages were raised 12-15% to encourage customers to migrate to newer alternatives.
The impact of extended lead times is perhaps the most disruptive aspect of the current cycle. For precision analog products requiring calibration and testing at temperature — such as ADI's AD799x I2C ADCs and TI's ADS124S08 24-bit delta-sigma ADC — lead times have stretched to 20-26 weeks, compared to a normal 8-12 weeks. For high-voltage parts (>=36V supply) in automotive-grade (AEC-Q100) temperature ranges, such as ADI's LT1999 current sense amplifier and TI's TPS7B69-Q1 LDO, lead times are quoted at 30+ weeks for new orders. Distributors like Arrow, Avnet, and Future Electronics have implemented allocation programs on over 200 ADI and TI line items as of June 2026, with some automotive-grade part numbers restricted to 80% of the customer's prior-quarter consumption.
The spot market reflects the severity of the shortage. On independent distribution platforms such as Net Components and FindChips, high-demand ADI parts including the AD8361 (RMS power detector), ADG1607 (16-channel multiplexer), and ADP2384 (4A buck regulator) are trading at 1.5-2.5x the distributor-list price. For military/space-grade (883B/5962) versions of ADI converters, spot premiums have exceeded 4x in some cases, driven by defense procurement cycles under the US Department of Defense's 2026 budget increase.
Looking ahead, the analog pricing environment is unlikely to ease before mid-2027. While TI's Sherman, Texas 300mm fab and ADI's Limerick, Ireland expansion will add capacity over the long term, neither project will contribute meaningful volume before 2028. On the demand side, automotive electrification remains the single largest growth driver: a modern EV contains $150-$300 worth of analog IC content, up from $60-$100 for a conventional vehicle. Industrial automation (factory 4.0, robotics) and defense electronics are compounding this demand. For procurement professionals, the recommended strategies include: extending firm-order coverage to 26-52 weeks for critical BOM items; proactively reviewing ADI/TI product lifecycle notices for end-of-life parts; qualifying second-source analog suppliers such as Microchip Technology, Renesas (formerly Intersil), and onsemi (formerly ON Semiconductor); and engaging with authorized distributors for bonded inventory programs that lock pricing for 12-month volumes.
Both ADI and TI have indicated that they expect analog pricing to normalize gradually starting in H2 2027, contingent on new 300mm capacity coming online and a potential moderation in automotive and industrial end-market demand. Until then, the industry faces a sustained period of elevated pricing, extended lead times, and selective allocation — a market environment that is likely to persist for 12-18 months from the current date.
